Security Message for U.S. Citizens April 8, 2018: Joint Security Operation in Bangui’s PK5

Early the morning of April 8, 2018, Central African security forces and MINUSCA peacekeeping forces started a joint operation in Bangui’s PK5 neighborhood. Gunfire has been and continues to be reported in this neighborhood. The U.S. Embassy in Bangui is restricting movements in the city for its staff due to this operation. The Embassy advises American citizens to avoid the PK5 neighborhood and adjoining neighborhoods during the operation.

The U.S. Embassy in Bangui reminds individuals to be vigilant, review personal security plans, remain aware of surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Embassy Bangui cannot provide consular services to U.S. citizens in CAR at this time. U.S. citizens in need of assistance should contact the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
