Ambassador Patricia Mahoney, the Minister for Humanitarian Action, the Humanitarian Coordinator and USAID staff travelled to Bria in the Haute-Kotto prefecture to visit shelters and activities funded by the U.S. government for displaced people and returnees.
Activities being carried out by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Oxfam, with funding, from the U.S. government, include the construction of more than 3,600 houses, income-generating activities for the displaced people, the donation of non-food items and hygiene kits, and the construction of a drinking water supply system for more than 30,000 people in the PK3 Camp.
“The return of internally displaced persons and refugees is an important step towards restoring peace in the Central African Republic,” said Ambassador Mahoney.
